This Tuesday for drill we had a really fun exercise. Todd had a little obstacle course and relay race set up. We put on all our gear, our SCBA tanks and actually went on air.
The first go round we were in teams of 2 we chose. We had to grab a roll of hose, carry it to the chairs
Then we had to take off our packs and crawl through the tunnels one at a time.
Next you had to step over two pallets.
Then get to the downed 'firefighter' call over the radio you found the patient, load the patient, notify command the patient was loaded and you were headed out with them. You had to get the dummy into the stokes basket and then drag it across the floor to the next station.
The last challenge with your gloves on and in full gear still you had to take a water bottle cap off, pour your bottle into a cup and put the lid back on and tighten it.
Once that was done you were done.
After everyone had a chance to go through the course once we drew numbers and were randomly assigned teams. Then it was timed and it was a race. There was no running and you had to still work as a team. You couldnt leave your partner, if they had problems putting their scba back on or making it through the tunnel or whatever you had to wait and help them.
The race was actually a lot of fun. The teams finished the course in under 2 minutes!
Its such a tight fit you have to take off your pack and push it ahead of you in the slippery tunnel
This was Sheris first time ever putting on air or going through a tunnel and she did awesome!
Things may have gotten a little crazy. Taylor dove head first into the tunnel and smacked his face shield on it and broke it in half. He doesnt have good luck with helmets!
