Most Easter weekends everyone goes to places that are packed, campgrounds, dunes etc. We always try to do just the opposite! Get away from everyone. I had to work from 6am to 6pm Friday. We had the camper all loaded and ready to go waiting for Kennedy to get home from school. As soon as she did they left to go get Cody and to head to Grouse Creek. Its about a two and a half hour drive. I headed out as soon as I got off work. It was a pretty windy day and there was a storm coming in to the west.
I made it to the camper just before 9. They were almost finished with a game of 5 crowns.
We crashed for the night and I was WIDE awake by 630 the next morning... so much for sleeping in! It had gotten cold over the night (like 20's) and there was frost all over the ground
Couldn't believe all the water flowing!
Chris cooked us up some breakfast and then we headed out in the side by side to go explore and look for sheds. We had to bundle up for the ride but it was nice when we were out hiking. Kennedy wants to be an Indian and find Indian artifacts ever since we went to the pictographs. She found a feather for her hair and spent the day looking for old tepees.
Rue loves camping so much. She was such a happy girl all weekend.
We went exploring a few more places.
And then we crossed into the Nevada border. I never realized we were so close. Just one little fence and we were through!
There was cool rock like this all over the place
We did some more hiking
See Kennedy down there in the orange
Chris and Cody clear out there
We made our way back towards Utah and ran into a herd of wild horses. REAL WILD HORSES! I was so stinking excited. I have never seen them before this. I got the best pictures I could through the binos and spotting scope.
These two had foals with them.
Cody found a geode for Kennedy. She thought it was the coolest thing ever.
She also really wanted to see a tepee, so he made her one!
We brought Kennedys shotgun so she can start getting more comfortable with it for her upcoming turkey hunt. We only had a few tears because it hurt her shoulder but we made progress.
We took our .17s out to get sighted in.
Cody stands just like Chris
We had a fire and smores
See I wasnt joking about Rue having to be touching Chris. If you look in every picture shes either touching him or right next to him. Shes a snuggler.
Then Cody got out his rope and we had some fun. Kennedys never seen her mommas roping skills before. Its been since High School and man it felt good! I was ready to rope some calves off a horse again.
This is the cute mischievous smile you never get to see in pictures but he does all the time!
Of course its as hes trying to rope me
Burning her mallows
Kennedy and Cody were inseparable all weekend!
Surprisingly Sunday morning the Easter Bunny still found us!
He put treats in the toy hauler so Rue wouldnt eat them over night and even hid eggs.
We packed up camp and headed for home.
Kennedy took FOREVER to get dressed and ready that morning, like bad.
Once we got everything loaded she told me she was stalling hoping if she took longer she would get to stay out there longer. Rue wouldn't get in her kennel. Chris had to pick her up to put her in it and she put her paws out to brace herself so he couldnt get her in. No one was ready to call the weekend over!
