Friday morning we headed out to 'deer camp' to hike in some trail cams and to just get away for the weekend. We were all pretty excited for a little vacation. We got to camp by noon and already there were a ton of people camped but our spot we like was open. We set up camp and it started raining. We planned to hike some cameras in Friday and then go find a spot we found last year on Saturday. Well it rained most the day Friday. Kennedy played inside and watched a movie.
MarDee and Brandon were at Brandons parents cabin at Bear Lake. We told them where we were gonna be camping and they stopped in to visit. They had been shooting so the kids had shell whistles.. They were nice enough to leave Kennedy with TWO for the weekend just in case she lost one. Kendell and Kennedy sat in the back of Chris's truck and were blowing them.
After they left it started raining again so we took a nap. Chris woke up early and decided he needed to clean the fire pit out.
Home sweet camp!
Miss K was loving it. She brought her bike up also and was riding all around in front of the camper.
We grilled up burgers for dinner
Dad taught her how to run the generator. Youd hear her say "red switch up, black lever over, pull cord" as she was trying to start it.
I was so happy to get some time with this guy!
Kennedy picked me wildflowers for my hat
We went for a night drive in the rain to see if we could see any wildlife. It was so pretty out.
The rain let up for a minute so we started a fire
Which of course lead to the BEST part of camping.. smores!
Sarita and Kristin were coming up to stay with MarDee and them for the weekend. We told them to bring the kids over that evening for campfire and smores. Well we never heard from them so about 10 we went to bed. About 1030 Chris started getting texts (he was the only one with service) that they were almost to our camp. Next thing we know we see headlights. Brandon, MarDee, Kristin, Matt and Sarita all pile out of the truck. It was pouring rain outside so Chris set up the awning off the camper and we hung out til midnight.
It poured rain all night long. We saw a clearing in the skies a little bit that next morning and we took it to hike in. The clearing only lasted about 10 minutes but the rain was light so it wasnt too bad once we got into the trees.
My little hiking buddies. I love them! K did so good! We hiked 4-5 miles in rough terrain and she didnt complain once!
We were soaked as soon as we got to the spot for the first camera. My feet were dry though!
We put our cameras in and started to hike out
K and I brought our bows and had sunny skies so we decided to shoot.
That evening we went for a drive and an adventure. We ended up in Bear Lake where we all THREE got raspberry shakes (Chris hates raspberry shakes since he puked them up as a kid...but loves them as of Saturday haha)
We saw a little spike by 1 on the way back to camp
We spent the evening watching Grumpy Old Men and cuddling in the trailer.
Kennedy had her very own guard dog every night. We werent sure how Rue would do. This was her first camping trip. She did awesome. She stayed right with us, slept in the camper, scratched the door if she needed to go out which is amazing since shes never been an inside dog or house trained. Each night she cuddled up next to Kennedy and kept an eye on her. When we got home and were unloading the camper the first thing Rue did was run in the house and lay down. She thinks she wants to be a house dog now!
We had such a great little trip even with it raining most the time and never getting warmer than 50 degrees. It was so nice to be together and relax!
