The 3rd and 4th were really busy for us. I was still off work recovering from my surgery. I took lots of naps and mid day icing haha. I still was working on walking as much as possible. It was so nice this year that we had a day in between. We did our Firemans Dinner on the 2nd (Saturday) and then all our 4th festivities on Monday.
This year we did something different. We did half our pig in the pit as normal and the other half we smoked. The smoked pig we did just outside of city hall. We had a bunch of smokers going all day long. It smelled so good!!!!
Jana and I sold dinner and raffle tickets at the door. The place was packed. And we had our annual auction with standing room only.
Then they did the firefighter of the year awards.
Chris and Russell both got it this year. I was so proud. Chris has worked so hard this year and done so much for the fire dept! He very much deserved it.
After the dinner and auction we have the live band that plays from 8-midnight. We do the raffle at 10pm and fireworks at 11pm.
I was safety officer for the fireworks. My job was to keep people out of the area and watch the lighters to make sure there was no problem. Taylor and Nick lit.
We just do a small amount on that night. Then the dance starts back up. I went home after that. I was done and my knee was huge. I ended up sleeping on the couch with the ice machine going all night long. Chris made it home about 130.
Monday morning bright and early was the parade. Sunday night Kennedy had her very first non family sleep over. It was just at our neighbors house. We spied on her through the backyard fence :) They had a big movie screen up in the backyard and were watching Independence Day. They had a table full of pop corn and koolaid and treats. She was in heaven!
Her and the neighbor girl Kya came over early to ride in the parade. The trucks were washed and loaded with kids. I was on call with Todd for the county for the weekend so I rode with him in Willard and Perrys parade.
Chris tailboarding on the engine Kennedy and Kya and Parker are on top of
The county commissioners came to the breakfast and rode in our parade with Dad
Taylor
Macee rode in the truck with Todd and I. She had so much fun! She loved waving at everyone.
and every year Kirk sprays the crowd
This year Mitch was ready for him
Kennedy and Kya after the parade with their hats
These girls played together at the park for HOURS
As soon as the parade was over the coke wagon started. We cooked burgers, hotdogs, scones, funnel cakes, french fries and about everything else plus sold pop and candy. All the money goes to fund our dept training
It was so hot outside Todd hooked up the ladder truck with water and started spraying the kids with the nozzle off the ladder
We made it til about 2 then it was nap time. It was sooooo hot outside. Kennedy and I went home under the ac and crashed. We had to be back at the park at 5pm to start setting up fireworks. This year we were ahead of schedule actually! We only had one tiny grass fire call over the whole weekend! Thats so unusual.
Todd was running command so we picked a spot on the hill to watch all the trucks and fireworks.
Chris and Mike were the Mexican sombrero brothers
The sky divers started to come in.
Assignment briefing right before the fireworks
Test fireworks for the Star Spangled Banner
We sat in 3a205 (Todd's) truck for the fireworks. I sat on the window and it was a perfect view
Our fireworks went really well! We had no spot fires at all. We even made it home just before 1am. Thats a record!
