Saturday we went out to West Liberty Foods for a Hazmat drill they were having. We invited to participate some and also help them with their drill. Its one of the first hazmat drills they've had like this.
We were there at 9am and it was COLD and windy!
Todd, Dad and I were assigned to teams 2 and 3. Our scenario was a hazmat leak that they had to fix and a leak they had to report on.
They set up their decon areas.
We had a briefing and got the party started.
First it was suiting up
Then they broke into teams and we walked them through the steps.
Todds walking the first team through the entry point.
Dad and I took them from there into the 'hot zone' and to the site
We were in an anhydrous ammonia filled room.. aka a smoke machine room. The viability SUCKED.
They had to use their senses and find the leak.. in the room they cant see anything in
Ive lightened the pictures to make it easier to see.. but you really couldn't see in there
Leaks found and walking them back to the decon area
Time for the teams to switch and the repair team to go in
The other leak they had
The bubble machine was the coolest!
and time for team 1 to come up to our scenario
The 'ammonia' leak
They also had Airmed there for the scenario too
It was a fun day and they even served us lunch afterwards! It was great to help those guys and go through scenarios with them
