Saturday morning we were getting ready for another Fire Fighter funeral. This time one from Tremonton. We had showered and I was just getting ready to eat breakfast before putting on my special clothes. I had on my nice black socks, white under shirt and shorts. Chris was wearing his white under shirt and pj bottoms. Of course the pagers go off for a structure fire in Brigham, possibly one trapped. We go en route and arrive on scene. Willard goes interior of the trailer on the back and Corinne goes interior on the front. We confirm there is no one inside.
We put out the fire, pulled up our hoses and left. It was 1020 by this point and Corinne and Willard had to be at the funeral by 11.. in Tremonton.
This is a picture from the news after we had left and they were doing overhaul.
As we were headed back to the station a medical came in (Brigham's Area) but we were passing right through there. Dispatch told us to go. We stopped and assisted the patient until their ambulance arrived on scene. We made it back to our station at 1045. We left all our turnouts in the engine because the same people going to the funeral were on the truck, that way if we had a call we had our gear. Chris and I ran home. Stripped off clothes as we ran into the house. I had wet hair in a pony so I had to untangle that mess. We ran in the door clothes flying, hurried and changed our undershirts, put on our clothes and ran out the door soot on our hands and smelling like smoke. We still had to drop K off to be watched and make it to the funeral by 11. We got there just after the opening prayer.. and no we didnt use lights or sirens!
We sat through the funeral services then we had to go line up outside as they brought the body out and into the ambulance for the funeral procession. Both sides were lined by fire personnel.
We salute as the casket comes out
He was then taken to the ambulance for the procession. It was followed by another ambulance and then all our fire trucks and brush trucks. We run with lights on but no sires, then the personal vehicles follow behind us. If you havent ever seen one before its quite a sight.
We parked just outside the entrance so there was more room for family.
Willard and Corinne had our ladders up again flying the flag.
We went and joined them standing at attention as the remaining vehicles passed by.
Next we headed to the grave site
They dedicated the grave. Did the last call. Played Taps. Played the bag pipes. Folded the flag to give to the family and did the last walk.
I love all the class A's. Everyone looks so good. Especially that guy in the middle!
Hopefully this is the last weekend in a LONG time we have to spend in these clothes.
