Week 2 of the rifle elk hunt

Friday night Taylor and I headed up to go meet Chris at the cabin. The weather was nice and warm. He only had seen a big bull elk that morning and we are hunting in a spike only area.
We got there about 5:30 just in time for a night hunt. Its DARK and cold by 7:15 now
He thinks hes so cute pulling faces lol!
We didnt see anything Friday night and headed out before sunrise Saturday morning. We covered a ton of ground and saw nothing. Didnt hear of anyone seeing anything either. I love the skies up there so much! They are always so full of color.

IT WAS FREEZING COLD. We had so many layers on and it still wasnt enough. Especially with the windchill of being on the wheeler.
Chris had to stop several times to warm his hands on the exhaust and he even has grip warmers.

We saw 3 big bulls and went to where they were crossing to see if any spikes were crossing behind them and nothing.
We headed back over to where I was archery hunting to do some hiking around and see if the elk had moved back in yet since the sheep were gone. The trails looked so different! This was covered in green and a thick dirt path worn into the ground with bushy leafy trees all over so you couldn't see the top of the hill. Now look at it. You cant even see the pathway.
We dropped one four wheeler off where we were going to end our hike and took one back to where we were going to start our hike so that when we finished we didnt have to walk that LONG ways back to the bikes. However that made for 3 of us having to ride on Taylors 4 wheeler back to the other one.

This is what it looked like Saturday night before bed

We had a HORRIBLE wind storm that night. I was sure it was going to blow the roof off the cabin. We also had sideways pelting rain that I truly thought was going to break out the glass on the windows. We woke up to it snowing.

It would have been great but it didnt last! It soon warmed up and the skies cleared.

We saw a ton of deer and moose. Chris has his eye on this one opening morning this upcoming Saturday. Hopefully we find him!

We headed home once again with empty elk tags. This just isnt our year! Hopefully the deer hunt will be better to us! It wasnt just us though. We heard of almost NO ONE filling their tags or seeing anything. We seriously saw nothing but 4 bull elk. Thats so rare. We didnt see elk in the back of trucks, hanging in camp or anywhere.
