300-Duck hunting with my parents

Sunday morning we had a family duck hunt. Todd was supposed to come with us but their dog was sick so he stayed home to take care of her. Mom and Dad met Kennedy, Chris and I at the boat ramp in Perry at 7am. By the time we got there the parking lot was packed! We couldnt believe it. We loaded up the boats with all the gear, dogs and people and headed out. There were people in one spot we wanted to go so we went down a little channel and to another spot in the same area but further away. When we were getting everything set up (about 30 min before legal shooting time) we had hoards of ducks flying over. Thats part of why we picked that spot to stop at.
Kennedy wanted to sit with Grandma in the boat. Dad and Chris went off to sit in one set of weeds and I went to another.

Tank came and sat in the weeds with me
We didnt have anything flying in even close to us. They were either super sky high or way far to the north or south. We had guys a ways across from us that as soon as a duck even got in their eye line they were shooting and they were still SO high. The thing with decoys is you are supposed to let the ducks get close so they come in and land in them or set their wings to come sit. They usually spot your decoys and circle around to come land. You have to let them get close not just start shooting.  We had to take a donut break since there was nothing and walk around a little to warm our feet. Raspberry filled donuts are a tradition and a must when hunting with my parents!
While we were enjoying our donuts we saw there were 3 deer a ways out from us. All of a sudden they got spooked and started running straight at us.
They made it to maybe 20 yards from us and spotted us when one of the dogs moved. We had been holding still waiting to see how close they would get. They were honestly headed straight for the boat. This is the first time I have ever had deer in our duck blinds lol! It was a mom and two fawns.

We didnt even fire a single shot! It was so slow so we picked up all the decoys and headed in
Kennedy thought it was the coolest thing ever to be able to go out in the shallow water and pick up decoys with us.

The sun was shinning and we made our way back through the canal

We worked on the house some. My Grandparents came up to my parents and brought us some Halloween goodies. All us girls were there. Chris's mom and brother came up and stopped in for a minute. Then we all headed down to our house to show my grandparents and they wanted to see the pup. My Grandpa is very much a dog guy. Especially a hunting dog. So he had to look him over :) Then we headed up to Todd and Janas for Sunday dinner. On the way up there we got a call from Liz that Elysha had been in an accident. Elysha had just left my parents house with Kinlie, Parker, and Macee. Kennedy had been with her and she was going to take her into Brigham with her but we had her stay with us instead since we were headed that way. Some high chick (yes she was actually high on meth) ran a stop sign as Elysha was westbound and tboned her right where Parker was sitting. Thankfully she didnt hurt them or hit them too bad. Parker had a headache but wasnt hurt really. Everyone was ok.
Then Kinlie, Klint, Kyle, Liz (and Koree) Kathy, Roy, Ash, Derek, Ry, Mom, Dad, me, Kennedy and Todd and Jana had Sunday dinner. Dad and Todd cooked up homemade fries and onion rings. Ash grilled the burgers. Chris found a killer deal on more sod so he missed dinner to go get that.

And in case you are wondering who the heck Koree is.. I can FINALLY announce it since its all out on Facebook now and everyone knows..
Meet Koree Walker my new niece

299- Last deer hunt and first pumpkin carving

Saturday morning bright and early we all loaded up in Todd's truck and headed up to the cabin to see if we couldn't get one more deer this year. Jana came along with us. Kennedy was so excited ha! Grandma Jana doesn't usually go along on the hunting adventures but she did this time and she had fun! It was great! We brushed a bunch of places and her and Kennedy helped watch for deer and spotted ones on the hills. We ate donuts and froze! There are actually a ton of deer on the hillside here.. but they are all does.. that seemed to be the theme of the day! No bucks

We did see a few moose. Saw this nice bull down at a pond for a morning drink

This cow moose ran right at me and finally saw me and ran the other way
We hung the rest of the curtains in the cabin. Took back up all the bedding that had been washed and stored in garbage bags for the winter. The beds stay covered in plastic to keep bugs and dust off when no one is staying there.

Fixed the folding part on the stairs and left the cabin all ready for winter
We didnt get any bucks. We saw one for one bound down the hill when we were brushing. We tried like crazy to brush him out of the trees but no go. So Todd ended the deer season with no deer. I dont think he was too broken hearted. We left hunting and headed back towards home. We were starving and it was way past lunch time so we stopped at this BBQ place in Logan. It was amazing!! Their food is all smoked and so delicious! They have a bunch of homemade BBQ sauces. We ate til our bellies hurt and ate some more. Definitely a must try!
Saturday night we had a family pumpkin carving. This was Kennedys first year carving a pumpkin. She has always painted them. Todd and Jana sent us home with a bag full of a their pumpkin carving kits. I had never used a stencil or fancy carving tools before ha! I'd always just hacked at it with a knife and drawn my outline with a pencil so this was a new experience!
Kennedy was a little beyond excited!
We cut the top off and let her rip out the insides

She was full of it if you cant tell by all the faces shes pulling

We had stencils and then you poked holes along them with a little tool that made it like a dotted line to cut along.

Kennedy picked out a cat to do. Chris helped her carve hers out if you cant tell by how good it looks! Hes been hiding some talents from me! He's a professional pumpkin carver lol!
Mom of the year here forgot to go to the store to buy candles.. so thankfully I keep a supply of glow sticks on hand and we improvised.. all about fire safety you know ha!
Mine.. which apparently several people have told me looks like a fetus in utero.. they thought I was trying to make a pregnancy announcement.. nope no baby in this uterus!
 and Chris's
Kennedy was done carving her pumpkin in like 10 minutes.. because all she really had to do was poke holes and we kind of had to do the rest for her. She was bored and kept asking to go play while we did ours. I made her sit with us while we carved ours. Damn it! Its family time and we are all going to have a good happy time together carving pumpkins! I might have gotten slightly Grizwold Christmas Vacation on this family time pumpkin carving ha! Chris got the same speech too! Kennedy sat and cheered us on while we carved "that looks really good mom" "dad your pumpkin is really scary"  "you look pretty while youre carving mom" " dad thats a really good line you made"
All in all we had fun and was a really good night together
