A few days ago it got chilly. I went to turn on the heater and it worked.. but it wasnt blowing hot air. Our house was 63 degrees and after a few minutes of running the 'heater' it was below 60. I checked the lights on the furnace and made sure everything on the thermostat was set on heat. I called Chris who of course was at work.. he told me a few things to try.. yep still no heat.. So we had his A/C furnace man come check it out. Turns out when they wired the thermostat into the wall they only ran one wire.. and spliced it into another one (which it fell out of) and this and that and basically it was half assed and there was one wire ran to it for cold and if you wanted to run hot you had to disconnect a wire at the furnace and plug it into another part of the furnace because it wasn't wired in the wall and thermostat for heat and cooling at the same time.
He started looking to see if there were places we could run wire through and redo the placing of the thermostat. The problem with a lot of our walls is they are either lathen plaster or concrete. The mudroom is an addition onto the original house so there is a small attic above it. Chris climbed up to see if there was any existing wiring or a place to run wire through.
I held the ladder safely in place and watched
Ya that was a no go.. Kyle showed up and looked at the system. They decided they needed to tie a bag to a string and run it through one of the returns that sucks in air to take it back towards the furnace.. and Im not really sure exactly why...
Well our sucker doesnt suck enough so that didnt happen
So they decided to go to the other sucker in the house. See part of the dryer with the clean clothes folded on it.. well pretty much right behind there in a little room is where our furnace is.. but you see that wall that separates the laundry room and the kitchen.. its concrete so you can run anything through there. They needed some tools to run wire through places and at angles so I called the Cable Man Zack who has all those assortments.. Good thing he lives 1/2 a block away!
While they guys were busy deciding where to run wiring, where they could and where they would be able to replace the thermostat at.. I ran for rations. Pizza.
When I got home I found 3 holes in my wall.. sigh
The first lower one they drilled there and when they went to run wire up they found a metal fire break they couldnt go through.. I dont really know what happened on the upper hole.. but the middle one is where the thermostat sits now.
I have two holes in the kitchen to fix and one hole in the living room where it was placed before.. and after all this we were discussing the project Wed night and Dad says "why didnt you just install a switch at the furnace so you could pick one or the other..You cant run heat and cool at the same time anyways"
But hey.. its done.. and thank you everyone for your help!

Pizza for rations, huh? That was generous of you. No wonder the A/C furnace guys worked efficiently. I hope you're not experiencing any more problems with the new furnace so far. Have a great day!
