East Canyon

Friday as soon as I got off work we headed up to East Canyon for the weekend. We made reservations just to camp but they were also having a work party. Mom had a meeting that night and one that next afternoon plus the work party so she came up and stayed in our camper with us. We brought Cody along too. That night was pretty low key we just did burgers and hotdogs for dinner and took a walk.
That next morning was the work party. We werent going to help because we didnt need hours. Todd needed work hours so they were up there at 8am. Mom just wanted us to help haul archery targets with our side by side. I was dying with a sinus infection and we went for a walk to clear me up. Where we ran into them rebagging archery targets and you know where that went ha. Next thing you know were working.
We got all the targets bagged and loaded into Chris and another guys truck. We took them up the mountain and then Chris and I took them around in the side by side to the targets. We had to do some creative driving.

We made breakfast burritos for 'brunch' and hung out at camp. Jana had a meeting there at 4pm that night so we all just sat around camp.
Chris made dutch oven potatoes and steaks for dinner and the storm rolled in.
We played cards and watched tv for the night. The next morning we packed up and came home. I died as soon as we got home. Cody wouldnt let us take him home. Him and Kennedy played non stop together all weekend. They were sitting on the swing out back giggling and telling stories.
Chris's friend called and asked us if we wanted to go bow fishing. Well of course! We took his little boat out on the bay. It was interesting ha! Thankfully we werent going far or far from shore.

We tried another spot after that and then headed for home!

IV and IO

Tuesday night we practiced our IV and IO skills

We have a new probationary member who Rod was showing how it all worked to.

Chicken drumsticks are great to practice in because you are really drilling into a bone (just like with a real person) and it simulates it the best.

Using eggs (not boiled) helps you be able to stop as soon as you break through the barrier

Jon showing off where he got 2 ivs.

I think he kinda thought it was cool!
and then he let us start IVs on him
look at those veins! perfect

Rod gave him a special scorpion bandaid to make him feel better and then signed it.

Field Trip and Bikes

Kennedy had a field trip this year to Tulleview Dairy. She was so excited. To top it off her bff Ashlyns mom text and asked if Kennedy could ride with them in the car instead of the bus. I told her only if I got pictures haha
Kennedy and Ashlyn

Chris got to do a control burn while I was at work. He had to rub it in.
We went for an 8 mile bicycle ride the other night too. Hes all into wanting to ride bikes this year.

Turkey Hunting

This is Kennedys first year hunting and we decided to start her out with something semi easy like turkey hunting. Opening morning they got on a bunch of turkeys. Chris had her several times at 10 yards from a decent tom and she just wouldnt pull the trigger. She was worried because her gun would kick. That morning started off bad lol. She woke up weepy and whinny, plus she didnt want to not go to school because they were having a party (she was only missing like the first hour and the party was later) It was quite and adventure for them. After a pep talk with mom on the phone she was ready to shoot one but she didnt get another chance after that!
Mom and Kennedy went out the next day to the same spot. We had  horrible winds and no birds. We did see a little buck who was already getting some branches.

That place was a bust so we went to another spot I always have some decent luck..
We were sitting in the Jeep and Kennedy said "Mom let me borrow your binoculars. I think I see some elk" which is usually what she says when she just wants to use them. I said "You dont see any elk... we are way too low" So I turned and looked out her window and there were a TON of elk. I couldn't believe it and they were so low!!

There were probably 50 elk broken up into different herds all over.

We didnt find any birds. The weather hasnt been warm enough for them to really be talking.
The 3 of us went out later that day

I went out the next day by myself to a fail safe spot I always go.. and I saw some but they were in private land.

We all went out again that same night. Kennedy was READY to shoot one. She was determined now and realized how lucky she was to get that opportunity to shoot opening morning and really was kicking herself for not. She didnt want to stop for the night until the sun went down. She was leading us all over the mountain and wanting to lead the trail.

Hopefully we will be able to get her on a turkey this year
