239-Part two

After I dropped Kennedy off at school I wasnt sure what to do. I headed down to get a drink. The skies were dark. It had been so humid all day long threatening to rain.
While I was down there my car got nice asphalt spots on it. They are repaving about 12 different streets and the main highway through town. It was like the greasy asphalt so I had to wash my car with dish soap to get it off. As I was about halfway through scrubbing my car the pager went off so I went to the station. We had a wreck on the freeway. That took up an hour or so of my time.
Kennedy came home from school the same time my mom stopped by to borrow a lid. She needed to run to Walmart so we tagged along. She asked Kennedy if she wanted to play a game. She looked at her like what?? This mean mom here never gave her kid quarters to play the claw machine so my mom had to teach her how to do it. She didnt win, turned right to me and said I need another quarter. I laughed and said no.. see mom this is why I dont teach her this!
She called her sisters to talk about her first day of school while we shopped. After that her dad came to pick her up for his mid week few hours and Chris came home. He got right to work on making a sprinkler for the backyard to cover the whole grass spot.

The finished project. its movable.. and its made wide for stability because of the pressure (yes I did ask why didn't cut the pieces shorter and that was my answer)
He set it out at the edge of the yard and adjusted it so it goes back and forth across the entire grass patch getting it all
As soon as he got the sprinkler set the pager went off again.. at the exact same place we had the call earlier that day! Only this was for something completely different. This was the first medical Ive got to work with Chris! I was kind of excited. We stayed at drill for a little bit.. mostly cleaning up equipment from the previous call... and stocking the bags. After that Chris and I went on the wheeler down to some land of my parents. The wheeler really was the only way to get around town with so many of the roads being blocked off.  You could drive down the sides of them in the gravel where you couldn't in a vehicle. Right as we got on the bike the rain started. It was a nice warm summer rain though and there was a double rainbow!

I couldn't help but take a few pictures! It was so pretty with the ran and sunset!

239-Kindergarten!

Tuesday my little peanut started kindergarten!
She has been SO EXTREMELY excited to get to start. I let her pick out her outfit for the first day. Of course it had to be a skirt!!
She said to Grandma Chris: "Can you believe your 5 year old granddaughter weighs a whole 40 lbs! I feel like I'm a lot older. Like I'm 6 and starting 1st grade"
Her big deal of being older is always being 6.. not 10.. not 20.. just 6
Grandma asked Kennedy what she wanted to learn in kindergarten
Her reply was "to ride a horse all by myself"
She was disappointed to find out they dont teach that in school.
FINALLY it was time to go! We walked the half a block to the school.
I really wasn't feeling sad about her starting or growing up. I was excited. This is another big step and milestone for her in life. In all honesty I was almost a little sad that now for the next 13 years our lives will revolve around school schedules, homework and all that!

We stopped in at the city offices to visit with 'grandma' Teri. She was so excited to show her the outfit she was wearing and give her a hug. Teri was so cute she told Kennedy if there ever is an emergency she was there and she could come over to the city offices because it was a safe place and she would take care of her. Man you gotta love small town life! After that she was off to the races running as fast as she could to get to class.
We had to take a picture at the front doors! I debated about it but then realized its not that hard to figure out what school my kid goes to.. there is only one between Willard and Perry!
I for some reason started to get a little choked up at this point!
Walking her down the halls was a little nostalgic. This is the SAME elementary school I went to.. its not been remodeled.. the hallways are the same.. the rooms are the same.. the bathrooms are in the same places. I was so happy to have her going there!
We found her classroom pretty easy
Met with her teacher and she sat down at her desk
By this point I was fighting tears! She put her backpack down and went to go play outside before the bell rang
and I headed home by myself
I made it until I got home before the tears started falling. I honestly have no idea WHY I was crying. I wasn't sad. I wasn't scared or worried. I wasn't all sad my baby's growing up. I was actually excited for her.. but yet the tears still started!
She LOVED the first day of school. She thinks shes SO grown up now. I walked over to pick her up and she didnt want to hold my hand on the way home. She didnt need to anymore she said. She wanted to walk with her friends (our neighbors) and talk to them about the first day of school.

238- More Grass!

We have slowly been piecing our yard together a little at a time.. and very frugally!
The little bit of sod we had in the backyard he got for free. He watches KSL every day for new things we need at the house. He has been on a sod hunt lately. One of his FAVORITE things to do is barter and talk people down in price. He lowballs them every time and almost always gets it for that. He was texting back and forth with some guy over dinner who had a bunch of sod to get rid off.. brand new straight off the pallet. He'd over bid a job and told Chris he could get 1500 sq feet for $75. We were so excited. We hooked on the trailer and headed to Kaysville. When we got there the guy only had about 700 sq feet left. We were pretty bummed but he sold it to us for $40 so we couldnt complain really! We loaded it all up and headed home.
First thing we decided to do was fill in our bald spot out front. Even though he just put grass seed down we werent expecting sod and figured might as well make it look good from the road first. You can see there are some patchy spots on the lawn. He filled those in with seed too and hopefully by next year it will be nice and lush!
Heres what it looks like now!
Then we started to fill in the one empty spot in the back yard and extend it out a little more. For right now we still use that one drive back into the yard so we didnt want to sod that in
Before
And after we layed it all down. Its not even but its a start! We were going to fill in that part closer to the garage with concrete and make all those stepping stones and squares all one piece of concrete eventually but figured might as well grass it for now instead of leaving it an empty spot. The best part was irrigation came early that next morning so all the sod got watered in really good!

237- Chris's projects

Chris always has some new level of tinkering to do with the irrigation system in the back yard and I just think its so cute! Hes always got one more thing to do or fix on it. Well Sunday he found a killer deal on concrete mix bags at ACE. They were ones that the bag had been damaged so they were $1 a piece. He grabbed a few and put concrete in the bottom of his 'box' he made so the water fills up more in there instead of seeping into the ground.

He also got a little bit of grass seed and put it down in the front yard to fill in our bald spot

236- Cabin and County Fair

Saturday morning as soon as Kennedy came home we went up to the cabin just to check on things
We were going to go early in the morning but it was too hard to get out of bed at 5am on our day off!
So we waited until 10am.
It was SO very dry up there. I couldn't believe it. It was just about this time last year that Chris proposed  (which he remembered and mentioned :) ) and the ground had so much more moisture then. We really need a good snow this winter or next year will be horrible. Even the aspens were completely dry. One thing besides the fire danger... if the plants dont have enough moisture and grow well the deer and elk dont grow well either. Especially their antlers. The nutrients in the food really affect how they grow.
The pooper had tipped over with one of the big storms
The ground was so dry you couldnt even step with out it crunching badly under your feet. We had taken some guns up to shoot but decided against it since it was so bad.

Crusin around 'the block'
After our drive we came home and got ready for the Box Elder County Fair
We had made plans to go with Todd and Jana Saturday night.
Now Kennedy was coming along with us, Hunter text and wanted to come too, and Derek and Ash and miss Ry. It ended up being a whole family event :)
We bought our rodeo tickets when we first got there. The lines were crazy!
Then we walked around and looked at some of the animals. Kennedy walked past this pig and the girl told her she could pet it.
She was pretty bummed that neither Dad or Grandpa Todd would buy her a pig in the auction.

After seeing the animals and the booths we went back to the rodeo grounds for dinner
We all got burgers and drinks there. Then it was time for dessert! Between all of us we ordered 3 caramel funnel cakes and I ordered one raspberry chocolate one mmmmmmm! It was amazing

We took our seats and waited for the rodeo to start. We thought it started at 7.. but we were wrong and it started at 8 so we had a little time! Kennedy was making Derek and Ash pose for a picture. She wanted them to make a heart with their hands

Me, Kennedy and Mr I refuse to smile

All us girlies
 The Bug

 Hunter and the Bug
The rodeo was pretty good. They had some good stock. Kennedy hates the calf roping part and lectures us on how mean it is. But wants a calf... and a pony.. She wants to mutton bust and loves the bronc riding.
The mounted posse his this adorable little cowboy who had to be MAYBE 10 riding with them on his pony. It was so stinking cute! He could keep up with the big horses and run the patterns with them just fine.
Todd won a nice wool vest in one of the drawings. The rodeo got over about 11pm and we all headed home!
