267-268 Opening of Muzz Hunt

Tuesday as soon as Chris got off work we were packed and waiting to head to the cabin. Wednesday was the opening of the muzzle loader hunt. Now normally every year I do the muzz hunt and Chris hunts rifle.. but with him starting a new job not too long ago and not having a much flexibility and vacation this year I decided to be nice and rifle hunt with the 'boys' aka Todd, Hunter and Chris. Well with all the new changes, less tags, different regions and areas this years draw for tags was really interesting. Me, Todd and Hunter ended up drawing Cache rifle tags and Chris didnt. We had to scramble and get him a Cache muzz tag so he could still hunt. After all that we still had to have to different hunts.. hurts my feelings and all getting to go out for the hunt for two seasons hahaah. On the way up right before you hit Hardware there is a flat thats always full of animals. This had a good 20 fawns.. and probably at least 10 doe. We rounded the corner and saw about 20 turkeys.. ran across a few doe deer and a moose on the way into camp
That night we went to bed nice and early. Listened to the moose paw the ground outside. The weather forecast sucked and called for cold temps, rain and snow. About 2 am it started raining HARD for about 2 hours. I wasnt sure we were going to be able to go in the morning. We got up at 6am and were hoping to be out the door around 630. It took longer to get light than we planned on. There was a lot of cloud cover.
We ate some breakfast.. muffins and bananas
Finally it was close to the light we needed. We drove over to the spot and sat in the truck for a good 20 minutes still. Glassing the area and waiting to see if anything was sneaking across the area. Nothing showed and it was light enough we could get out and go to the over look

We looked around for a little bit and put Kennedy on this over look. Her job was to watch for deer coming up and down the canyon or on the hillside

It was so strange for me to be out hunting and not have a rifle or shotgun on me! I dont think Ive ever done that before!
Chris came over to sit by Kennedy and glass across the hill. She says to him after a few minutes "Dad I just saw some coming in and out of the trees down there" He said where? She pointed and sure enough two doe and a 2pt buck come out
Its hard to see in the picture but they are right by that lone green bush/tree in the middle of the hillside. About 150 yards away. We could have easily snuck up on them. They didnt care we were there. He was a little 2 point, it was opening morning and we sill had a whole day and weekend to go so Chris decided to pass on him.
We went and explored a few more places. Didnt really see much at all. Miss K couldn't stay awake for the ride! She put her hat over her face to keep the sun out and was gone
After spending some time up top and a few other places we went back to brush out the gate hole where we had the deer come out that morning. Chris sat on the hill, Kennedy waited in the truck because rain was coming in (the truck was parked really close to where we were at and she could see Chris) and I went down and around the hillside and up the draw. It was BEAUTIFUL in there. The leaves were all over and so pretty! Here are some fall shots for you mom

I heard some deer scamper in when I first went into the trees. Not much later I kicked out an old cow moose. Her back knees were all white and she had white freckles on her butt. If you look close you can see her in the trees. I was actually really close to her when I first kicked her up. Like 10 yards maybe. Moose are usually really territorial and normally if you see a mom shes pissed and stomping and snorting to get you out of her area. I did have my pistol with me.. no way was I going off on my own with out it. Thankfully we just looked at each other for a minute. I told her I wasnt going to hurt her and she looked at me and walked off. She stayed ahead of me most the hike giving me glimpses on and off

We didnt have anything come out to shoot. About half way through the rain started coming down hard. I hiked up the hill back to Chris and we went to the truck. Had some soup at the cabin and took a nice nap. Kennedy watched a Goofy Movie. About an hour later she woke me up to take her out to the bathroom. It was snowing!

There was a cow moose going across the property for the trees in the storm. We went back inside and waited out the storm. A little bit later we went back out hunting. The moose that spent the night pawing while we were sleeping and the one who was headed for the trees now was camped out about 30 yards from the outhouse. She didnt care we were there. She was super mellow and just watched us the whole time.
This next time out we saw a TON of doe and fawns. Almost every one had twins and a lot of the twins had little nubs of antlers poking through the skin. Good sign! You can see a mom and fawn below.
The doe is right at the tip of Chris's binos. We sat and watched these two for a minute because the fawn kept looking back behind . We could tell something was coming up right over the ridge and then we saw a deer butt hauling into the trees at a dead run. A truck came right over the ridge behind it. We are pretty sure it was a buck. Normally the doe if they run stop at the treeline and then turn back to look. This one took cover as fast as it could.
We saw a bunch more doe..

We passed up two spikes that night. They were just little bodied. So opening morning we let a small 2 point go, two spikes, and another 2 point Chris that was small bodied also and it was getting dark fast. Its not so much that they were just two points but more that they were little young bucks who had small bodies. Maybe the last night of the hunt for meat.. but not on opening day. We left camp that night and got home about 9pm. Hopefully this weekend will bring better luck! We had a lot of fun though. We saw moose, deer, and a big herd of antelope.

265 & 266

I have a new favorite obsession in the morning. Its a raspberry fritter. Seven Eleven sells them. Every morning its fresh and amazing! A big bite of heaven!
I am also in love with my new Browning hat. Shalon hooked me up :) Its perfect for the fall!
Whats this? A homeless camp set up right across the street from work. It reminds me of a rickshaw lol! Just pull the trailer over here!
Its like a small camp trailer mixed with a pop up trailer and a few cardboard boxes and a bicycle
Oh and these two little love birds.. Liz and Kyle.. they got married in Vegas over the weekend! Congrats you two!!

264- Browning

Early Saturday morning.. at like you know 9 in the morning!! Elysha and the kids stopped in. We were just getting up after getting home around midnight. I was still in bed and Miss Macee came to snuggle with me. She was so happy. She layed on the bed and giggled and smiled. When Chris is around she gets all giggly and just stares at him. He started talking to her and she tried so hard to talk back. Elysha and I were cracking up
Chris and I spent the day together. We didnt have Kennedy which was so strange to me. I woke up 3 times during the night to get up and check on her. I kept remembering she wasnt there and it wasnt sinking in. We had a lunch/breakfast date at Moores in Perry. Finished up a few things and got ready to go with our friends trap shooting at Browning Corporate in Mountain Green. My other brother from another mothers wife called. He had gotten his limited entry elk in the Millville unit (hardware ranch area) He was just getting into town so we asked if he needed help hanging it in the cooler and he did. We went down and helped him load the quarters into the cooler and checked out his rack. It was pretty nice! Good job Kyle!
After that we headed to Browning. Once a week roughly a bunch of them get together and go shoot clays. We never have been able to go before this. Shalon works at Browning and is in the legal department. She is awesome besides her fun hookups! There was a large group! The normal people were there, plus us, plus she invited Zack who brought his brother and she let us invite Todd and Jana. The good part though is everyone staggered in at different times so it worked well. First group up was Jared, MarDee, Tina, Brandon and Zeb (Zacks brother)
Todd, Jana, Ryan, Shalon and Zack
This was pretty much Janas 3rd time ever shooting a shotgun and 2nd time shooting trap. She rocked a 10 out of 25 with her new gun!
Shalon had a few guns out from Brownings gun locker.. I first shot a Citori 625. Citoris are my absolute favorite ever dream gun. I LOVE THEM. The 625 is a lighter weight shorter barrel. It was heaven.
The next round I shot the Citori Lightening which is a little longer and a little heavier.. normally I dont like that but the gun fit me so well it was hard to not like it!
Everyone shot a few rounds. Each round is 25 birds and each 25 birds you shot was $2 to pay for the cost of the birds.. Seriously! $2! Thats such a deal! Most trap clubs you go to you are paying at least $6 a round.  When you shoot trap the birds fly out of the trap house (that little cement box above) They go to the left right or straight at different angles but they are flying away from you. You can see different numbers marked on the ground with lines. Those are yardage lines. We were shooting at 16 yards which is normal. So when the bird first flies out the closest you get to it is there and it sails further out as it goes.
When you shoot skeet.. which is what the next pictures are..
The birds come out of those tall brick buildings you see them standing by. One on each end. They one bird each for  a total of two. One bird is flying away from you and one is flying towards you. You have to hit them both and they come out at the same time. Each spot you stand is marked with a white dot. There are 8 stations and each place

Todd shooting at station 8. The hardest one
After that they did an Annie Oakley shoot.. how that works is you stand back at the furthest line..27 yards. A clay comes up. The first person shoots at it. If they miss the next person shoots and it goes down the line til the bird falls. Everyone is shooting at the same bird but cant shoot at the same time. It has to be one at a time and in order. If the first person misses the bird and the second person shoots it the first person is out. Now if the first person shoots the bird the second person can shoot a piece that comes off it and the third person can shoot a piece too. If both people hit the piece they are safe and that takes their turn. If they miss and no one further down the line from them hits it they are safe.. Clear as mud! Last shooter standing is the winner! Its so fast paced!
Chris lives for this game ha! He ended up winning both rounds they played. The second round was down to him and Shalon
After shooting we went to Carlos and Harleys for dinner. EVERYONE went. All 13 of us.
Then to top off the night EVERYONE minus me went to Zacks house for a bonfire. By the time we got home from dinner it was 1030 and I had to work at 6 am the next morning. I was the party pooper and went home to bed. Next thing I know about 1130 I had just fallen asleep and heard Chris unlocking the door.. or so I thought it was Chris! I said you're home already honey?! MarDee says yes we are and her and Shalon jump on me on the bed! They stayed and visited for a while.. raided the liquor cabinet and pop fridge and were gone. I guess everyone was down at Zacks til 3am!

263-LUKE BRYAN! WOO WOO

I love Fridays. Its Chris and I's first day off together of the week. We get so much done. We took Kennedy to school. Went grocery shopping. Went to Smith and Edwards for a few things. Worked on stuff around the house. Hes fixing the dog kennel getting it ready to bring his dog to the house. Kennedy is SO excited Bailey is coming.
Kennedys dad came and picked her up for the weekend and we were off! MONTHS ago we bought tickets to Luke Bryan. He was coming with Florida Georgia Line and Thompson Square. We had SEAT tickets. Ive never sat in seats at Usana before. We were off to the side of the stage
Us girls headed off to the bar and the boys stayed outside. They got their beers and hung out. JaNeale has a friend in the bar who hooks us up with drinks. They had a promotion going on.. buy a shot of Fireball Whisky and get a pick of a shirt, hat or lanyard. You had to get your picture taken in front of the Fireball sign with your shot. Chris LOVES Fireball.. I can tolerate it. So being the good wife I am got some shots of Fireball.. We each ordered one but I had to take 2 and Ash took 1. We got him 2 tshirts and a hat :) We surprised him when we left the bar. He was super excited!
First band up was Florida Georgia Line. THEY WERE AWESOME.

JaNeale gets a little excited haha
People started pouring it. It was a sold out show and had been for weeks! Tickets the day of the show for LAWN were going for aprox $150-$200 and where we were $400-$500... It was tempting.. We paid $60 for our seats.. ha but we didnt sell out :)

Girls
 vs Boys
We know how to have fun
Hunter was a crack up. He kept coming over and dancing with me.
Next out was Thompson Square.

Between the bands we went down to the bar area to meet up with Shalon and MarDee. They were off in the grass seating so it was easier to see them there! Plus we wanted some shirts. Chris holding his sisters hand. It was so cute I had to get a picture to make him remember later when they fight! He may butt heads with her so much but he loves her and takes care of her. He wanted to make sure she had a fun night and he did. He had his arms around both of us most the night.. He tried to hold both our hands as we walked! Danced with us both and when he wasn't Hunter was filling in. Such good boys :)
My brother from another Mother was also there too!
Hi Zack!
Me and my Shalon
When we went into the bar because some of our other friends were in there and they had ordered an ton of drinks and there were only two of them. The band started so the guy there said here! And shoved a bunch of drinks in our hands as the bartender was giving them to him, he paid and ran out because Luke Bryan was starting. Ash and I split one and made Chris drink some of the beers.. I hate beer. We found MarDee and her hubby.
The biggest reason you go into the bar at Usana.. The bathrooms. WAY WAY WAY less crowded.. less dirty.. less lines. That is the place to go when you have to go...
The lines all night long for everything were ridiculous. Once Luke Bryan started we were able to get Tshirts. There was no wait by then. All we did was miss seeing his opening song and its not really a big deal because you can still hear it.
We were actually a lot closer than the pictures look..

Chris was cracking me up. He is so friendly once he gets warmed up a little. We were dancing non stop pretty much. He danced with everyone. He wants to make sure that all those around him are having as much fun as he is. The girl behind us cracked me up. She very sweetly turned to her boyfriend and said see honey you need to be more like that and have more fun!
Chris had one goal that night.. He wanted to dance with a bunch of girls in wheelchairs. We were on the first row and then there was all the handicap accessible places in front of us. So all those on crutches or wheelchairs were right there. He wanted to make their nights and ensure they were having fun. He asked me if it was ok and I just laughed at him. Of course!!! So he danced with one girl who was in a severe car accident at 20 and could stand but couldn't really walk. There was a guy he started talking to earlier in the night who had triplet daughters that were 13. One of the triplets fell out of a tree at 10 and was paralyzed from the waist down. He went up to her dad who was sitting with them. Asked him if it was ok if he danced with his daughter. The guy stood up, shook his hand and walked off to get a drink. When the dad passed me he was teared up and gave me a big thumbs up. The girl didnt know what to think! It was so cute! He makes me so proud sometimes. He came back and gave me a big kiss and told me thank you for being ok with him dancing with other women. I just laughed and told him Im not worried. He can dance with all the girls in wheelchairs he wants to.
Luke Bryan put on the best show I have ever been to. I love it because it was simple. It was about playing music and entertaining the crowds.. not fancy backgrounds and flashy things. He played a bunch of songs and danced around. Man that guy can move and shake.. its mesmerizing! He had another new singer who was in town Cole Swidell come out and sing a song. Then he pulled the other two bands that were there for the night out to the stage with them. They sat in a big circle passing around a mason jar and singing songs together. He played some Sarah Barelli, Metallica and a few other groups too. They just sat on the boxes on stage and sang. Towards the end girls kept hopping up on stage and it was cracking him up so much at one point he stopped singing and was laughing. The security tackled one girl it was awesome! I must say if he comes to town again that is one show I will make sure I have a ticket for.
