Gardiner Canyon Fire

Tuesdays seem to be the days for big fires in Box Elder County lately. They had two big fires start at once again. A 3rd came in and Todd and I were sent. Remember just a few posts ago here Portage Fire when we all hiked to the top of the one mountain.. well this is the same mountain. Had a lightening strike happen on the top. You can see the retardant line from the fire there a few weeks before.
We knew this was in no way a hikeable fire  (at the time) considering slope, fuels and time of night. We coordinated with the Forest Service since its all on their property and made it an air attack for the night.

 We had a S.E.A.T

a helicopter scoping it out for the next days work

and a heavy

As we were headed home from that fire we were paged to another grass fire
AND to add to it all.. during this time my dad was out of town for 2 weeks. I spent 3 full nights in the ER with my mom. Took her to several Drs apt and took care of her... and worked 60+ hours at my real job. It was  long week!

They initially thought she had kidney stones, then went to kidney infection, to maybe diverticulitis or a tear.. all tests for EVERYTHING they did came back completely negative. She was in so much unbearable pain. Completely miserable. They had no answers. They ran so many blood and urine tests, did a CT, contrast CT an MRI and all showed NOTHING. Finally after almost 2 weeks of it she contacted a family friend, who also is a PA and works in a spine clinic. The Dr had said maybe it was a nerve issue in her back but the MRI was negative so they thought maybe muscle. Her friend asked her to do a few simple tests and 100% pinpointed what it was. She said what she had wouldn't show up on anything and its not common in women, mostly in men so they dont ever think of it.
My mom made an appointment with a general surgeon and 2 days later was having surgery for a lateral hernia in the groin!
