Opening weekend of archery deer & elk

Friday afternoon we headed up to camp where Mom & Dad and Phil were already. We have a different campsite this year and actually love it more! From left to right youve got our trailer, Todd & Jana, Wayne & Dawni (theyre not hunting just camping with us) Mom & Dad and then Phil.
Behind the trailers in the trees we have our kitchen set up and a very nice fire pit area.
The hunt opened Saturday morning so Friday night was pretty relaxed. My dads brother Terry and his crew camp at the Meadowville unit which is about a 20 minute 4 wheeler ride from us. They came over for dinner. We had chile verde burritos and fresh corn on on the cob.
Mom was excited about the color changing packets she bought for the fire.
Wayne and Dawni made dulce nachos .. wholly crap they were good! Fried tortilla strips with cinnamon and sugar on top of vanilla ice cream with drizzled caramel.
That next morning we were up bright and early... 4 am to be exact... to hike into our spots. I had planned on Kennedy coming in with me to my bog but Grandpa Todd snagged her and took her with him. We hiked in the dark. She slept in the blind and had Snickers and apples for breakfast. I think i see why she went with him! We waited til late morning and hadnt had anything come in.
Gotta have the annual opening morning blind picture
We started the hike back out when we ran into Grandpa and Kennedy. They had hiked part way into meet us.
I love this 'three generation' photo of hunters
We went back to camp..had some pancakes, hash browns and bacon.. took a little nap...went for an evening wheeler ride to see what we could spot on the hills or see if there were any deer. We ran into this girl 40 yards off the road. She didnt care about us at all!
Kennedy pretty much slept on the back of the wheeler the entire time

She LOVED camp and didnt want to leave! Im not sure whose more excited to go back me or her.
Wayne cooking in the kitchen...
Just kidding hes cleaning the grill for steaks that night. We had to really rough it. Steaks, baked potatoes, spaghetti squash, corn and an apple cobbler for dessert.
We (Todd, Chris, K and I) didnt go hunt Sunday morning. Chris didnt feel good and there was a pretty good lightening storm going on so we slept in. Made over easy eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for everyone for breakfast. That afternoon we went into one of my favorite areas to hike.
Roy and Kathy came up to visit and Kennedy stayed with them and Grandma Jana instead of hiking with us. This is what we walk through.
No luck that night. We headed back to camp. Phil, Dawni and Wayne had left for the weekend. Roy and Kathy were still up for dinner and it was my turn to cook. We had taco soup and chicken enchilada soup with rolls. They stayed til after dark and headed back home. We tried to convince them to spend the night.
Monday morning Dad and I got up early to go hunt. Mom was tired and wanted to sleep in and so did everyone else! It was so nice this weekend to just hunt if you wanted to or sleep if you didnt. It was really relaxed and so nice. We started off on a good morning hike.

We chased a few deer and that was it. Once we headed back to camp it was time to head home!
