Week 10- Rain, Fletching and skull painting

We had a nice rainstorm come in this week. I was out grilling burgers in the rain. The skies were so dark and the air smelled so good.

It was the first spring rain of the year. One of those rains that's just an instant downpour.
Our driveway turned into a river.
Ok Im being dramatic.. a small creek
 The tree greened right up
We didnt just get rain. All of a sudden there was a steady stream of hail in South Willard. They said the roads were instantly covered in almost an inch of hail slush... which caused a rollover. The driver was fine.

Chris's Grandparents Roy and Kathy used to own an archery shop. For like 30 years. They ran it out of their home. My parents actually used to buy from them clear before mom and dad were married. I'd go to the shop as a little kid. My parents shot archery with Roy and Kathy clear back in the day. Chris and his dad bought stuff there before Todd and Jana were married. They were THE shop. People still ask if they are in business and still show up at their door step even though they've been closed for over 4 years. Yes they were that good. Kathy's arrows were the thing. So many people swear they have never had arrows shoot as good as the ones she used to make. Chris will only shoot arrows that Kathy has fletched (attached the feathers on the shaft). Chris has came two the realization that Grandma may not be around forever. He will need arrows and wont be happy unless they are hers. So he decided he wanted to learn how she did it. We went over and she taught Chris her ways. It was nice we sat and reminisced of the days of the shop, heard all kinds of stories and just visited.

We had our fire dept dinner this week at Maddox. Part of our party includes white elephant gift exchange. However we all have a twisted sense of humor (you have to) and the gifts are usually a little crazy. Chris got these slippers and earrings. He couldnt stop laughing long enough to get his picture taken.
He wore them all over Maddox showing them off.
Van (our chief) and his too small sock monkey pjs.. its a tradition
After Chris's fletching adventure Kathy sent us home with her fletcher to practice and finish up the arrows we needed to do for Kennedy. She shoots off a shelf on her recurve so she has to have feathers instead of plastic veins so they fly straight and come off the bow right. So we took apart 5 of the very pretty vein ones my mom made her and turned them into feathers. We saved the rest for when she gets older and can shoot a different bow. Each arrow takes a while to do. Like an hour and a half.
I let him do a few but it was sitting there just calling to me while he was at work for me to finish them up. So I did. I paid attention when she was teaching him and fletched some arrows on my own.
 My very first arrow

I dyed my hair again this week. I went more dark brown and less black.
Mom wanted to paint her skull from the first buck she shot. We talked about colors and I finally talked her out of the ones she wanted to do and into these! She did the skull a metallic silver and the antlers a turquoise. She loves it and is glad she did!
