Christmas 2014

Christmas morning Chris and I got up at 6.  We figured we might as well shower and get ready because once the day started we wouldnt get a chance, We woke Kennedy up at 7 to open presents. She was so excited to see he ate the cookies and brought presents
She was happy with all her presents. She came and gave us each a hug after she opened every single one. She was just as excited over every present she opened. We couldnt wait for her to open her bow.
I had told Chris all I wanted for Christmas was a gun so we could go coyote hunting this winter. He got me a nice 22-250. He thought he was so cute. He had wrapped up the gun box and placed a tiny toy gun inside and had the real gun hidden in his gun safe.
After we finished Todd and Jana came over at 8.
This years presents from them was bulk supply of toilet paper, paper towels and plates. It was perfect! Kennedy got all kinds of cute toys and a stereo system for her room.
Then my parents came down at 9. Mom brought Kennedy a poster for her room. She THOUGHT she grabbed a Frozen poster but it turned out to be One Direction. Kennedy says she loves that band too so it worked out. She also got an Olaf popcorn tin and Frozen blanket. Chris got a gift card to Harbor Freight and I got a food dehydrator.
After that we had about an hour before JaNeale, Hunter and Jimmy showed up at 11.  Kennedy and I started cleaning her room and getting all her new toys put away. I preheated the oven and was going to put a ham in so we had lunch just before Kennedy left. The pager went off and Chris hollered for me. It was a full arrest so I hurried and ran out the door. Our nice neighbor was outside shoveling behind my car and I told him thanks for shoveling but look out I have to go ha. We ended up doing CPR on the guy for quite a while and werent able to bring him back. It was Zacks uncle. We were paged just before 11. JaNeale and all them waited for me before we opened presents. After we took care of everything and cleaned up all the equipment I got home just after 12. Figured we would open presents and then I would cook the ham and we might make it still before she left. Kennedy started opening presents. I took one picture and tore the wrapping into my first present and the pager went off again.... Semi fire. I hurried and changed my shirt (a sweater jacket and tank top just doesnt go well in turnouts) and was out the door.
Dad, Taylor, Kenny and I were on the first truck ready to go. We were excited for a fire and that Dad came to play. Normally he just goes in his Fire Marshall truck and not in the engine with us. Well as we are arriving on scene they tell us that the brakes are on fire and the guys tire popped and the trailer hit him and knocked him out. So we had a medical and a fire at the same time. We took care of him and sent him off to the hospital and put out the fire.
Jimmy, JaNeale and Hunter waited for me to get back. Chris had unwrapped all our presents for us and turned off the oven. It was great because they stocked us up on detergent, soaps, toothpaste and shampoos and things like that for the house. Kennedy got an American Girl doll and several outfits for it and for her.
Kennedy just went with her dad for the afternoon. I FINALLY got my ham in. We just sat down on the couch to watch a movie and the pagers went off again....
This time it was for a car fire. Both dads came and played this time. We found the car which had just overheated and also happened to be someone we knew. We headed back to the station from that one. My friend JP was dispatching in Box Elder that morning and was the one sending us on all these calls. I text her a picture from the engine and told her she has ruined my Christmas hair. She assured me she was off work in an hour and we shouldn't be paged on anything else after that.
The ham finished. Taylor showed up. Todd and Jana came over also and we ate dinner. Mom and Dad were busy at the archery range. Taylor had gotten The Heat for Christmas and brought it over so we all sat down together and watched a movie. We made it almost half way through the movie when the pagers went off again. Wreck on the freeway. Todd, Taylor and I all went in the same car. It was killing Chris to have to stay home! We made it to the station and were cancelled. We went back to the house and finished the movie. Todd and Jana left and we told them we'd see them in about an hour when the pagers went off again. They were gone from our house about 10 minutes when we were paged again for a rollover. Taylor and I made the first truck with Doug. It was at MM 353 nb on I15. We took 89 and got on the freeway at MM 351. The roads were horrible. It was snowing and sticking good. They had advised us a trooper was on scene and the person had minor injuries. We were about 2 miles out at this point. We hit MM 352 and I can see a car on the side of the road with its hazards on and a car clear off the side of the freeway on its side. I yell at Doug to stop. We confirm with dispatch that the call we are supposed to be responding to has PD on scene and a veh description. This is a seperate accident so we stop on it and let the engine behind us continue onto the original accident.
Our guy is on the side of the freeway saying he isnt hurt. Taylor and Doug take the patient and I go to investigate the truck to make sure nothing is leaking, no other people were in there or ejected ect.
This guy had completely lucked out!
See that big piece of concrete. It was a power box that stood about 4 feet taller. The truck came right off the freeway down the hill, head on into the power box and somehow rolled UPHILL between that power pole where the cone is and landed on its side in some bushes.
We waited until a trooper arrived on scene with these guys and then cleared. The wreck a mile ahead of us the engine had handled and didnt need us. We made it a 1/4 of a mile from the scene of this wreck. We were in the slow lane doing about 45 mph because of conditions and all the cars around us were doing about the same. All of a sudden a Suzuki Samurai comes FLYING past us sideways. It gets to the front of our squad and starts to spin 360* it then slides completely sideways RIGHT at the front of our squad across the travel lane and goes off the side of the road backwards and down the hill. It slides around and lands facing downhill in a pile of bushes. We hurried and stopped and called it in over the air. We could see an officer running full speed towards us about 50 yards up the freeway form us. Its dark and icy and all you can see is his reflective gear and flashlight bumping as he runs. We went down and checked on them and they werent hurt. We left it with the officer and headed back towards the station. We passed the engine just as they were loading the person into the ambulance. I wont lie we were pretty shooken up and glad we weren't the ones currently being loaded into the ambulance!

We made it back to the station and I headed home ready to go to bed! That made 8 calls for one day. I made it home a good 5 minutes before Todd called. A dog had gotten into his chicken coop and killed half his chickens, hurt 2 others and two were missing. Chris was aching to get out of the house so we bundled up and headed over to try and help him find his two missing chickens. We searched all over and couldn't find them. We found feathers all over. They went upstairs and pulled up on their security cameras and we watched the dog (and were able to identify whose it was) come into their yard, get into the coop and getting the chickens. We werent ever able to find the other two. Finally we made it home and in bed about 1030. It was a long Christmas day!
