Now normally I don't do too many posts about work
Especially with pictures
However all the info I'm sharing was on the news and all the pictures are from the news websites
Yesterday we had our first big snow day
It was normally my day off but about 630 am I go an overtime text from work asking for people to come in because they were swamped and short staffed.
There was a big 25 vehicle pile up on I-84 shutting down eastbound and westbound lanes from the mouth of Weber Canyon to the Mountain Green Exit
They also shut down southbound Trappers Loop
So there was no way into Morgan from unless you either went up over Monte and down 84 into Morgan
or went up over I-80 in Salt Lake and Parleys..which was in a white out conditions
In all this there was one fatality however it really wasn't from the accident itself
A driver slipped on the jersey barrier when he was getting out of his truck and fell off the bridge at least 50 feet.
It made for a very busy day at work!!!
Our Center bought us all pizza since there were no lunch breaks
There also was a tanker carrying butane that had to be grounded out and off loaded
The amount of calls we had regarding just road conditions of 84 alone swamped us... and then we had all the rest of the daily calls.
There was a semi who was diverted from the accident and while going down Ogden Canyon took out 15 cement barriers and knocked them into the river so Ogden Canyon had to be shut down the same time as 84 and Trappers..
And then we had another accident just east of where the mess on 84 was that had still been open..
It was quite a day! Everyone here was awesome!
That's one thing about the center I work in..
If it was to hit the fan I would want to be no where else
The teamwork in here is exceptional!

Such a crazy mess. Thank heavens it happened so early in the morning or I'm sure it would have been so much worse. Luckily there's people like you and your team who are able to provide relief in times like that!
Saw this on the news. So sad about the truck driver that fell. Very grateful for you dispatchers and all of the emergency responders though!
