Blue Creek Fire

Thursday there was a big fire out west in Blue Creek. It started earlier that morning. By the time Chris finally got off work they still needed us to head out. Taylor, Chris and I loaded in the truck and headed that way. We planned on Chris having to spend the night. Taylor and I both had to work the next morning. We hit 60 mph winds and heavy rain and lightening as we were almost there.
When we were taking the exit they said the fire was contained. They sent us in search of a lightening strike fire in the same area they had reported. We didnt see anything. The dust was really heavy and the winds were still really strong. Soon they called us back on the radio and said we were needed on another fire. Some embers were thrown into a stubble field when the winds kicked up. It started a new fire just to the north of the other fire.

We had to drive through the fire to get to the north side to gain control.
This was our visibility as we got to the center. We could see nothing. The truck vents were filling full of smoke and we finally made it through to the other side.

We met up with another crew where it was decided we were going to back burn from the road towards the fire so it had a nice fire break and would burn into itself and burn out.
They were putting out the fire on the east side. On the west side we had a good break with the road and the burned area we created.

You can see the burn through the smoke from where they were just at earlier

This road we are on is the State line road. Everything that is unburned is Idaho.. Everything thats burning is in Utah

We went around and put out some hot spots on the borders

Todds truck had a fuel line break and his fuse box melt.. it slightly caught on fire and had to be towed home
I was kind of bummed because I really wanted to fight active fire with water... but it was still a lot of fun!
Chris and Todd had to spend the night on the fire to keep an eye on it. The flames were out but they wanted to make sure with the winds and lightening nothing kicked back up. Taylor and I got home about 11pm.
