218-Structure Fire

Since we joined Willard Fire Chris has been so excited to get to go on a call. There have been a few in the week since we started going to drill. Two of them Chris wasnt able to make the first truck out. FINALLY Monday night he was able to go on a car wreck. He was like a kid waiting for Christmas. Where we are both on it and have Kennedy we kind of have to pick and choose and one goes and one stays. The tones went off and there was no doubt in my mind who would go. I told him go!
At 430 Tuesday we had a carbon monoxide alarm. Kennedys dad hadnt picked her up yet so I couldnt go and Chris was on his way home from work still. AndTuesday night we had drill.  Chris had to go to meeting in BC that night so it was just me. Kennedy does her midweek visits with her dad for a few hours on Tuesdays so it works perfect. I was actually really excited for this drill because we were going to get dressed and packed up, run some scenarios and do some patient care. It has honestly been at least a good 6 years since Ive been in turnouts and needed a good refresher on air packs and just feeling comfortable in them. Its easier to be baptized by fire for lack of a better term ha! I had just arrived at drill and only been there a minute or two before the pager went off. Structure fire. WOO WOO WOO! I was so excited. The adrenaline kicked in. Threw on my gear and was in the first engine out the door. Fully engulfed wood shed. When we pulled out of the station and hit the highway you could see the black smoke just a rolling. Sitting in the engine. Running hot. Black smoke. First truck in.. you can only imagine how HUGE my smile was! We all packed up (scba's) on the way. The seats in the engine have them built in. As we got there I jumped off the truck and was paired up with one of the guys to take a line from the engine down and knock it down. It was a good cooker and hot. We ended up melting part of a mirror on one of the brush trucks they were pulling a line off of. We got the fire knocked down SUPER fast. Had a home very very close to the shed and had another shed about 3 feet from this one that was made of wood also and had several vehicles sitting around it. We were able to watch our exposures and keep the fire from going to the house or the other shed

It was awesome ha! It felt so good to be back at it and fighting fires. We put it out and waited for the fire investigator to show up.

While we were on scene about an hour later they had a car fire on the freeway. Ended up being there a couple of hours between waiting for the investigator, them investigating, washing down hoses and putting stuff back together. We had to fill back up air bottles and clean masks. Finally got home about 2215. Chris told me about his night. I told him about mine. We finally wound down after all the excitement of our nights and fell asleep around 2330. At 0030 the pager goes off for a medical! ha!We both were exhausted and he said you can go.. But then we heard the address and it was next door... so I told him he could get dressed and walk over! So he did. It was only fair I got the first call of the night that he got to take the second :) We both had to get up for work around 4am the next morning and it came stinking early! But so worth it!!!
