193-194 Archery Camp and Flashlight shoot

Friday was the set up for the UBA (Utah Bowmens Association) State 3D archery shoot hosted by the Brigham Bowmen
Its held at the range in Mantua
A lot of the bowmen take their campers up for the weekend since they host the shoot and its kind of a big potluck camp-out usually
The shoot is on Saturday and Sunday
Friday night they set out the targets and got them into place
I watched the kiddos and had them color in the camper and we watched some Despicable Me on the portable DVD player

After that Chris and I had to head to Willard to meet with the house people
By the time we came back up it was dinner time and everyone else was there
It was time to hang out by the fire and enjoy the night
Todd and Jana had their camper up there and so did my mom and dad
We stayed the night in Todd and Janas since it has more room
Kyle had his trailer up there and its a toy hauler thats got a wall to separate it from the rest of the camper
The kids LOVED playing in there and running up and down the ramp

The next morning the skies were blue.. then they were grey.. then they got dark and the thunder and lightening started.. the rain came down hard for a few minutes and we had blue skies again after that

Chris went down to the new place and cleaned carpets and did some things there
I stayed up at the range
Kennedy played and played and played
There were about 5 kids that were right in her age range
They made a flower sale in the back of the toy hauler
They picked all kinds of flowers and weeds, braided them into bracelets, airplanes, eye brows and about everything else you could think of or anyone asked for
They were filthy and happy!

We had a wedding we had to go to at 4:30 in Brigham and then a temple sealing reception from 5-7 in Ogden
Just as we were getting ready to leave one of our friends who was there VOLUNTEERED and ASKED to watch Kennedy because her daughter and her were playing non stop..
Heck yes you can!
Plus both sets of Grandparents were there too for backup..
Did we just score a date night??
So we headed down and got cleaned up for the wedding
It was super cute!
Yummy food!
Her dress was gorgeous
Her twin brother is Coltin whose wedding Chris was just in a few weeks ago

After that we went to the reception in Ogden
On the way back Chris asked if I was hungry.. I was thinking we would just grab McDonalds or something on the way back up
Nope he wanted to take me on a date
A real inside sit down and eat date
AND to one of our favorite places, Melinas
We pulled into the parking lot and it he couldn't believe how packed it was
I started laughing
I said honey we are having a real normal person grown up date!!
He said a normal person?? I said yes! We are going out on a weekend night kid free and are dressed up!
This NEVER happens
Neither of us could remember the last time we had gone to dinner with out Kennedy
When we got back to camp Grandpa Todd and Grandma Jana had her all bathed up and clean
She was STILL playing of course with the group of kids
They honestly played from sun up to past sun down both nights

Roy and Kathy were there too and so were Ash and Derek
It had gotten COLD!
Jeans and sweatshirts cold with a blanket on by the fire!

On the Saturday night of the shoot just for fun and for free the Brigham Bowmen do a flashlight shoot
The way this all works is the range is private land pretty much (its rented yearly from the forest service) so its a close course kind of
The range has an upper and lower part with the main road coming in splitting it basically
When its dark you go to the lower half
Its easier terrain for the dark
They take about a 1 inch by 1 inch square of reflective tape and put it on the target
One person shines a flashlight from where you normally shoot at.. so anywhere between 20-60 yards so all that you can see is the reflective tape
Its DARK outside..
The other person holds a light on your pins on your bow so you can see them.. so you have to line up your pins on the piece of reflective tape from however far away you are.. you cant really tell if you are looking out of your peep sight, you cant see your bubble to tell if your left and right balance is correct.. you cant see the target to tell if you shoot high or lower if you'll even hit the foam. All you can see and aim for is the piece of tape.. which you would think it would make it easier since it takes away all around you but it actually makes it a LOT harder

Everyone lined up at the first target
Dad and Mom had their fire coats on that have reflective stripping on them so they really stand out in the pictures!
And this is all the light you have to see by
There was about 10 of us shooting
Everyone shoots one at a time then you go to the target to see where everyone hit at

Me
Todd
So here you can see the bright spot in the middle where the reflective tape is at (below most the arrows) and where all the arrows landed at around it
Now this group of people, we arent shy.. we arent reserved and we have fun!
Everyone was telling jokes and harassing each other so much that half the time was spent trying to stop laughing so you could line up your sights and try to shoot
Me and Liz
That flash is rough in the dark lol
Chris and I
Liz and Kyle
Chris shooting
Dad pulling arrows
It was so hard to get decent pictures
The flash on the camera was too bright but you couldnt shine the flashlight right on what you wanted because it messed them up.. so you kind had to have a little side light to be able to get a halfway clear shot
Here you can see a piece of the reflective tape and below it is whats called a lumenok
You can buy lighted knocks for the end of  your arrows but the thing is if everyone is shooting with out them and there is one or two people shooting with them it makes your arrow the focal point instead of what youre going for
Lining up for the 50 yard uphill shot
Here in the picture you can see Tim shooting and in the distance the tiny reflective dot hes aiming at that is 50 yards away
Chris shooting with his lumenok on and Manny shinning his light on Chris's sight

It was a pretty fun shoot
It took us just under 2 hours to shoot I think 10 or so targets
We finished up just before midnight
Kennedy was in the camper with Grandma Jana when we got back
I had to be to work at 6am so we didnt spend the night
We loaded up K and headed home to crash for a few hours
I recommend if you ever have the chance to do a flashlight shoot do it!
It takes it to a whole new level
